A Single Treatment That Brought Hope Back to His Hand

As a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner, nothing is more rewarding than seeing a patient regain function and confidence.

Recently, a patient came to my clinic with a serious problem. His left wrist and hand had completely lost the ability to lift. Because the affected muscles were no longer receiving proper nerve signals, he was unable to raise his hand or extend his wrist.

This condition had persisted for an entire month.

During that time, he sought treatment from both Western medical doctors and TCM practitioners, spending several thousand ringgit in the process. Despite all his efforts, there was little to no improvement, and he became increasingly worried about his condition and his ability to continue working.

After a thorough assessment, I found that the main issue was the poor communication between the nerves and the muscles, preventing the muscles from contracting effectively. I decided to treat him with acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture to stimulate the affected muscles and encourage the nerve-muscle connection.

After just one treatment, I asked him to monitor his progress over the following days.

The very next day, he shared encouraging news with me.

For the first time in a month, he was able to lift his hand slightly. Although the movement was still limited, it was a meaningful improvement. He works at a barbecue restaurant, and he told me that his hand had already become more functional, allowing him to perform some of his work more comfortably than before.

One week later, he returned for his second treatment.

He told me that after visiting many doctors and practitioners and spending a considerable amount of money without success, he finally experienced noticeable improvement after his first session here. That progress gave him renewed hope and confidence in his recovery.

Hearing those words was deeply meaningful to me.

Every patient’s recovery reminds me why I chose this profession. Witnessing someone regain function, return to work, and smile again is one of the greatest rewards a practitioner can receive.

Of course, every patient is different. The cause of the condition, its severity, and the speed of recovery vary from person to person, so treatment outcomes cannot be guaranteed. However, with a careful assessment and an individualized treatment approach, many conditions have the potential to improve step by step.

Watching my patient lift his hand again—and seeing hope return to his face—reminded me that this is exactly why I continue to dedicate myself to the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Every recovery is another reason to keep moving forward.
